Thankful
It's a few days past Thanksgiving and I'm thinking about our journey so far. It's only just beginning, yet it seems like we've already accomplished so much. Just two years ago, we had the dream of living on a sailboat and now we're so close to making that dream a reality.
The hard part now is sorting through a lifetime of memories. Deciding what to take with us, what to store, what to sell... it's overwhelming and exhausting.
Last weekend, we held a 3-day moving sale. SO MANY PEOPLE came through the house, looking for a variety of items to add to their own homes. Some items are easy to get rid of, but others... let's just say there were a few tears shed once we closed the door.
What made it bearable was answering the question, "So where are you moving to?" with "To a sailboat!" and seeing the wide-eyed wonder of people who have never considered that as an option.
Today, I'm sitting in an emptier house (man, a person sure does collect A LOT of stuff over the years...) and thinking of our next steps. We have a few months of selling, cleaning, and renovating to go, but I know we can make it happen.
Next Thanksgiving, we'll be on our floating home, wherever the wind has taken us. We'll be able to look out across the water and remember all the stress and frustration and joy and excitement that got us to that point. The people who supported us, who encouraged us. The new friends made and adventures sought.
And we will give thanks.
